Woah, it's been a while since been here; my apologies to anyone who may check this thing occasionally.
Anywho, if you're looking for something neat to do this Saturday and you haven't had your fill of openings and the like from the Mission Holiday Block Party on Friday night then you ought to check out this opening at Guerrero Gallery featuring works from local artists Mike Giant and Adam5100.

Guerrero Gallery is pleased to announce “Reflections on Past, Present and Future” an exhibition featuring works by Mike Giant.  A body of work that’s intended to lead us to reflect on our past and how our past has influenced who we’ve become today, Mike’s presentation of honored and praised iconography prompts us to contemplate how we can continue to evolve. Branching out from his traditional medium of ink and paper, Mike has created collage works and hand paintings on canvas, bringing forth a new body of work that surpasses expectation.
Throughout the years, Mike Giant has proven to be one of the best draftsmen around. Known for this
precision in the realm of drawing, he has utilized this exhibition as a springboard to more diversely express personal thought and emotion. Working with visually journalistic matter, he composes images that bring us back to the times when we were seeking role models and inspirational influences. Through the use of images that personally influence and drive him, these works seemingly present a diary or sorts and provide us with true insight into Mike as a person.

Guerrero Gallery is pleased to announce “Even Keel” an exhibition featuring works by Adam5100. This collection of pieces uniquely encompasses the method and detail behind his art. For the first time, the stencils he hand-cuts and then uses to produce his paintings will be presented as art objects of their own.
Deconstructed and reassembled, these stencils offer viewers an understanding of Adam’s practice.
Adam5100 hails as one of the top stencil artists around, producing works that evidence meticulous
execution and a high level of craft. His paintings strongly lend themselves to the process involved with
creating them. With the goal of truly exposing the process behind Adam’s paintings through the
presentation of his stencils, this exhibition provides viewers with a more in depth understanding of the
intricacy and intensity behind Adam’s work.
Adam5100 was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He took to the art of graffiti; a path led him to the California College of Arts and Crafts in San Francisco. His studies in printmaking and illustration won him the Yozo Hamaguchi award in printmaking, and a BFA with distinction. Adam5100's paintings have taken on a satirical look, challenging concepts of modernity, using spaces as a language to describe forgotten places, and light to evoke their story and context within the present, our time. In the years following his formal education, Adam5100's knowledge of printmaking and savvy ability with spray paint developed into a love and talent for painting using stencils. His stencils represent hundreds of hours of meticulous work and fine detail  -- the hallmark of his works. He continues to live and paint in San Francisco, CA, and exhibits frequently

Wow! If you have any interest at all in 80s and early 90s punk, hip hop, and skateboarding then get yourself over 941 Geary Gallery stat to check out the currently running Glen E. Friedman show "Fuck You All." Amongst a number of beautifully rendered photos of this eras icons (virtually baby-aged mind you), you will also find a few magnificent collaboration pieces with Shepard Fairey. Below are a few snaps I took at the opening this past Saturay, although it does no justice to this exhibition. This is one not to miss:

Fecal Face 10 Year @ The Luggage Store Gallery

I checked out the Fecal Face 10 Anniversary opening at the Luggage Store Gallery this past Friday.  Needless to say I think just about every single local e-publication promoted this opening and as a result the turn-out was a ludicrous mass of ironic mustaches (are moustaches still even able to be considered ironic now?) and fixed gear bicycles.  Not to mention it was wall-to-wall people, which is a shame because it made it very difficult to move through and actually check out the incredible art that was being showcased.  I'm definitely going to have to go back and get a better look without the crowd.  I also went to the after party at the Mezzanine for a little bit, but the old gf wasn't feeling it all and she had to work in the morning so we split relatively early on in the night.  Word is the after-party might get a redux.
Anyhow, here's a few photos that I somehow managed to snap off at the gallery:

Stanley Donwood "Over Normal" Exhibition at Fifty24SF sneak peek

Last night Fifty24SF Gallery had a sneak peek of sorts of the Stanley Donwood exhibition "Over Normal." The official opening is scheduled for tonight from 7:30-10PM.
You're most likely to recognize Donwood's work as it appears throughout several Radiohead albums. Below are a few shots of what to expect from the show. There are several large pieces that are reminiscent of the "Hail to the Theif" cover art, several color raster graphs that were used for the OVERNORMALIZER (audio installation), and even a few spontaneous rubbings of various utility coverings from around San Francisco.

Lower Haight Gallery Openings

This past Friday we checked out some of the neighby-ho gallery openings, and my, my, my what fun it was!  We ran through Fifty24SF, D Structure, and Lower Haters - check the detailed photo run down below:

First up was the main event, Porous Walker's Haricots Magiques opening at Fifty24SF Gallery's new space directly adjacent to Upper Playground.

Inside and out it was a wild scene, tons of great people, great art, and great entertainment! Not to mention complimentary beers and popcorn!!!
Friday June 4th 166

Porous' art is absurdly amusing. He's definitely got his own style. And while it may not be as detailed as Carravagio the time he saves on each individual piece is probably what allows him to come up with such a prolific show.
Friday June 4th 120
There was a really great stream-of-consciousness type scroll along one entire wall of the gallery

...that too
Friday June 4th 136

One of the best things about going to a Porous Walker show is that he doesn't take himself too seriously, as such most of his work is seriously inexpensive. And I'm proud to say this precious gem now belongs to me

Snugglemachine also played and gave out prizes and compliments! What a couple of capital dandy fellows!
Friday June 4th 175

There was some other artists' work on display at the show too, but unfortunately I got too drunk to remember names. Here are a couple of great paintings hanging there now (I think one of them is rendered after the likeness of SF's own Jeremy Fish):

Remembering that D Structure was having an opening too, we ran over there next. These guy's have been having some seriously outrageous looking parties going on in their gallery and I'll seem to stop by too late to check it out. Luckily we didn't miss it this time:
Friday June 4th 214
Heeey, there's another party in here.
Friday June 4th 210

Wow, and look at that tremendous art (again I've forgotten names, but it's there now so go check it out)!

Very glad we finally made it over to this opening. We'll be back!

Friday June 4th 226

Oh man, is that John and Jessica Trippe from Fecal Face? These guys are like celebs to me, and I finally got up the nerve to introduce myself. Here they are representing some Midwest flavor

We met a Harvard teaching fellow who lost his finger in freak accident at the dolphin therapy camp that his parents sent him to because he wasn't speaking at the age of 6 and they thought he wasn't right in the head. One morning while feeding the dolphins this boy's life would change
